Writeback Grid

Overview
The Writeback Grid is a powerful visual tool that allows you to write back changed data to multiple data sources directly from within the Power BI platform in a secure and atomic manner. This functionality is enabled through a backend-agnostic web service that acts as an intermediary between the visual component and your backend, without storing any data. This combination is particularly beneficial for business users and data analysts, as it enhances data quality, streamlines workflows, and allows for manual data population to support data warehousing or machine learning processes directly from within Power BI.

Licensing & Pricing
The PRO plan follows a per-user model, providing everything needed for the Writeback Grid to function, including the visual component and a fully managed web service. The PREMIUM plan is a per-instance (flat rate) model, offering access to a dedicated web service, fully managed either by us or by yourself, with access to the underlying container image hosted within our container registry. The free version of the Writeback Grid visual allows for writing back only one single record at a time and includes a watermark. Licenses can be conveniently purchased from the AppSource, with license management and automatic invoicing handled in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. If you choose the PREMIUM model, access details will be provided directly by us vial email.

Network & Security
The Writeback Grid is not certified by Microsoft due to its use of an external service, which Microsoft cannot control. We ensure security through the built-in encryption mechanisms of both HTTPS and ODBC for data transfers, along with an additional end-to-end encryption mechanism for user credentials. Depending on your backend's network configuration, you may need to whitelist the web service's IP address in your firewall settings and open the inbound database ports. Please note that the web service cannot connect to non-exposed local databases such as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1".

Upgrades
Both the visual component and the web services are regularly enhanced with new features, which are automatically updated in your report. Your web service will always have the latest version available for both plans. If you are self-hosting the web service, you only need to pull the new image from our container registry.

The visual is designed to be very simple and intuitive, typically not raising many questions. However, we are happy to support you along the way and answer any additional questions.
