Trend & Anomaly Detection

Advanced Anomaly & Outlier Detection - Flag abnormal data points with configurable deviation bands; highlight high/low anomaly zones directly on the chart. The Trend & Anomaly Detection visual helps you clearly see how performance changes over time and quickly identify unusual behavior.

It analyzes time-series data, automatically flags anomalies and outliers, and highlights when meaningful shifts begin—so you can act before small issues become costly problems. The visual accepts a measure and a time dimension as inputs, computes a rolling (moving) average over a configurable window, and calculates deviation from the moving average using standard deviation–based thresholds. Users can define the standard deviation level used for anomaly detection; data points exceeding this threshold are automatically flagged and highlighted as anomalies, with optional data labels displayed for identified outliers.

Features

Rolling Average

1. Automatically calculate and display the rolling average based on the single measure provided.
2. The rolling average window is determined by the user in the settings. (defaults to 8)
3. Settings:
   • Toggle On/Off
   • Rolling Avg Window (Select number of periods)
   • Initial Periods (determines number of periods before displaying)
   • Line Color
   • Rolling Avg Line Thickness
   • Rolling Avg Line Smoothness

Outlier Bands / Outlier Markers

1. Outlier Max/Min thresholds are calculated based on the standard deviations setting from the moving average.
2. The Outlier Standard Deviation and Standard deviation window are determined by the user in the visual settings.
3. The Outlier markers flag data points that fall outside of the standard deviation window (Anomalies).
4. Settings:
   • Toggle Outlier Bands, Shaded area, and Outlier Markers On/Off
   • Outlier Initial Periods (determines number of periods before displaying)
   • Standard Deviation Window (Select Number of periods)
   • Outlier, Outlier Band, and shaded area color change
   • Shaded area Opacity %
