Distributed Energy Resource Management System
Newsflash: Schneider Electric was recognized as the 2022 Microsoft Energy & Sustainability Partner of the Year
About the Offer
Electricity consumers are seeking more control over their energy future and are driving the growing presence of Distributed Energy Resources (DER). This growth is disrupting utility operations, planning and the industry overall. And with the continued adoption of climate change mitigation policies and renewable energy goals, the adoption of DER will only increase.
To meet some of these challenges, Schneider Electric presents the EcoStruxure™ Distributed Energy Resource Management System (EcoStruxure DERMS). It is a grid-aware solution tailored for the utility to manage this disruption. With DER monitoring, forecasting and control at its core, DERMS enables critical capabilities including hosting capacity analysis, grid constraint management and usage of DER flexibility.
Key Benefits
Our solution enables retailers face and overcome challenges related to
- DER management - Manage Distributed Energy Resources with an overarching interface that directly communicates to single DER units, enables their aggregation, and interfaces 3rd-party-aggregated DERs. Supports all types of generation, energy storage, electric vehicles, microgrids, and demand programs. Keeps track of DER in real time and forecasted output.
- DER flexibility - Gain insight into the available DER flexibility, from DER units to the DER group level. Dispatch grouped DER as one virtual resource. Optimized dispatch for both local and large-scale services.
- Situational awareness - Gain awareness of DER’s impact on the grid. Get hidden load information with a single click on network view. Detect DER-imposed issues such as reverse power flow, grid edge problems, or generally weak points in the network. Receive an alert for any such issue happening in real time. Discover upcoming constraint violations using Look Ahead functionality for improved near-term operations planning.
- Active network management - Apply Active Network Management that overcomes under/overvoltage, thermal overflow, and undesired reverse power flows while maximizing renewable generation output. Combine traditional optimization assets with available DER flexibility for maximized renewable generation and minimized customer disruption. Capture the full potential of DER flexibility by implementing upfront DER dispatch using Look Ahead Constraint Management.
- Demand flexibility - Utilize aggregated DER flexibility in a violation-free manner, including real and reactive power flexibility. The optimum dispatch of DER flexibility, from the whole system to a feeder level, implements generation curtailment, load shed, and shift, capacity and energy management, and VAR support.
- Hosting capacity - Increase efficiency of processing new customer connections. Assess available hosting capacity in each part of the network with a hosting capacity heat map. Seamlessly execute detailed customer connection check to determine how newly installed DER affects the existing and future grid, considering voltage violations, overloads, reverse flow, and more. Analyze locations that are already facing constraints violations.
- Non-wire alternatives - For areas faced with constraints violations and in need of an upgrade, use the Network Planning suite that leverages intelligent forecasting tools and network simulation modules. As a planning engineer, develop future network models proficiently, plan for multiple DER integration scenarios and compare traditional and alternative grid planning options. Ensure the grid is effectively reinforced while flexibility is maximized.
- Certified for IEEE 2030.5 integrations - Certified for communication using IEEE 2030.5
