Continia Sustainability automates carbon accounting by enabling simple tracking of multiple emission results for each financial transaction—whether current or historical. It then automatically allocates emissions to the relevant GHG Protocol scope and category, generating various reports.

The solution extends the standard Business Central Sustainability module and integrates with other Continia solutions, such as Expense Management and Document Capture, to enhance workflows.

Conversion of financial data into emissions

Continia Sustainability automates the collection, management, and monitoring of environmental impact data, calculating carbon equivalents for items, travel, waste and much more. It is able to produce multiple emission results out of a single transaction. Historical data can be imported and used to create reports for previous financial years. It allocates emissions to relevant scopes and offers detailed transparency, including emission transaction history, emission scope, category, unit conversion, emission factors, GHG breakdown, and energy mix details.

Dual energy reporting

The GHG Protocol mandates "dual-reporting" of electricity use: location-based, which measures actual energy use with local grid intensity, and market-based, which includes emissions from energy contracts. Continia Sustainability allows users to assign emission factors for both methods, automatically calculating two outputs with one entry and reporting results in the Sustainability Report.

Integration of up-to-date emission factor datasets

Continia Sustainability offers free access to a wide range of emission factor sets from global sources, regularly updated for accuracy. Users can review and select data, recalculate emissions when updates occur, and integrate custom emission factors from suppliers for precise reporting.

Streamlined data import

Continia Sustainability integrates environmental data into purchase invoices, allowing users to specify environmental accounts and resource usage. It automates the integration of environmental information into financial workflows by adding these characteristics to the general ledger account. Users can also import data from sources like item ledger entries and credit memos directly into environmental journals.

Data that is not stored within Business Central - e.g., employee commuting data - can be imported through file and used to automatically calculated the related CO2e emissions.

Generate standard and custom carbon reports

Continia Sustainability generates emissions reports aligned with GHG Protocol standards, categorizing emission under the 3 emission scopes, and 15 categories of scope 3. Standard Financial Reports can also be integrated with CO2e results. Users can then create custom reports, including year-over-year comparisons, for strategic decision-making.
