Viatel Data Security Workshop

The Viatel Data Security Workshop is a four-week, guided engagement that gives you a clear, evidence-based picture of your organisation’s data security and compliance risks – and a practical roadmap to fix them. It combines an automated “Data Security Check” of your Microsoft 365 estate with expert-led strategy sessions, all powered by Microsoft Purview and aligned to modern AI and regulatory challenges.

Instead of generic advice, the workshop uses your data, your users and your configuration to show where you are exposed today, what that means in business terms, and which controls will have the biggest impact in the shortest time. The outcome is a concrete, prioritised action plan you can use to move confidently towards an AI-ready, compliant, and well-governed data environment.

Why this workshop exists

Most organisations are wrestling with the same problem: data is everywhere, and the risks are growing faster than traditional controls can keep up. Data now lives on-premises, in multiple clouds, on laptops and phones, and increasingly flows through generative AI tools.

At the same time: • Decision makers often don’t know where all their sensitive data actually is, or who can access it. Around 30% of decision makers have limited visibility of the location or nature of their sensitive, business-critical data. • Employees are using new AI tools – sometimes without formal approval (“Shadow AI”) – and pasting in customer records, HR data, source code, and contracts to get their jobs done faster. Over 80% of leaders list leakage of sensitive data as their main concern when adopting generative AI. • Data security incidents are increasing and becoming more expensive, especially where there is poor visibility and weak governance.

The reality is simple: you cannot protect what you cannot see. Organisations need a fast, structured way to answer core questions:

• What sensitive information do we have and where is it stored? • How is it being used and shared by our people? • Where are we most at risk today – especially around AI, insiders and oversharing? • Which Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 controls should we enable first to make a meaningful difference?

The Viatel Data Security Workshop was designed to address these questions head-on, using Microsoft’s own Data Security Check methodology and tools.

What the workshop covers

At its core, the workshop is about giving you visibility, insight, and a roadmap:

1. Visibility – an automated scan of your Microsoft 365 data repositories and user activity to uncover hidden risks, dark data, and Shadow AI.
2. Insight – clear, business-oriented interpretation of what those risks mean for your organisation, mapped to regulations and internal policies.
3. Roadmap – a set of prioritised recommendations and next steps, aligned with Microsoft Purview capabilities, that you can immediately start implementing.

The engagement focuses on:

• Data security and privacy risks across Microsoft 365 (and optionally on-premises and endpoints). • Insider risk scenarios such as exfiltration of intellectual property, inappropriate sharing, or policy violations in communications. • AI-related risks, including Shadow AI usage, oversharing of sensitive content into generative AI apps, and data that may be inadvertently surfaced by AI. • Compliance posture, with optional assessment against Microsoft’s Data Protection Baseline and other relevant assessments via Compliance Manager.
